Hiya Beautiful,

The balance of oil and moisture in the skin is important. Moisture is the water present in skin. Oil secreted by the sebaceous glands lubricates the surface of the skin and acts as a barrier which prevents moisture evaporating from the top layer of skin.

Dry skin usually lacks natural oils and affects women under the age of thirty-five. Dry skin that lacks both water and moisture is associated with aging; therefore, fine lines, brown spots, enlarged pores, scaly and dull looking skin are all signs of aging. Dryness can also be exacerbated by wind, extreme temperatures, air-conditioning, dry air, sun exposure, cold, chemicals, cosmetics, poor diet, nutritional deficiencies, and lack of vitamins A and B.

Healing Dry Skin from Within

Fresh vegetable juices – approximately two servings a day – are excellent for clearing the skin. You can choose from a variety of deep and rich colored green vegetables and eat plenty of fresh orange and yellow organic fruits and vegetables. They are high in Beta carotene, an antioxidant and precursor of vitamin A. A deficiency of vitamin A can result in scaly dry skin.

Essential Fatty Acids are the best for dry skin. Flaxseed oil, especially, is rich in omega 3 and omega-6 fatty acids, protein and vitamins E, A and B.

Healthy oils – hempseed oil, evening primrose oil, black currant oil and borage seed oil. These oils are excellent sources of omega 6 Fatty acids GLA (Gammalinolenic acid); they can strengthen skin cells and boost their moisture content

Avocado

Avocado is very nourishing for the skin, especially for dry skin, as it contains vitamin A, E and D. When applied topically, it facilitates collagen production, and reduces inflammation.
